Education & Training Committee

The objective of the Education & Training Committee is to enhance the knowledge of first responders, direct service providers and the general public concerning LGBTQ intimate partner violence in the D.C. metro region. Currently the committee manages training with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) on how to identify a primary aggressor in an LGBTQ partner violence incident.

Opportunities for Volunteers:
Volunteers who join the Education & Training Committee have the opportunity to assist in training activities and community education as well as various other tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Working with the committee chair to review training content and materials to ensure the most accurate information and to reduce overlap with partner organizations during LGBTQ trainings
  • Attend a “train the trainer” session to garner skills to assist in the training of MPD officers, other service providers and community groups on how to respond and reduce barriers to service for LGBTQ survivors of partner violence
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of trainers for the MPD training initiative
  • Represent RRC at community and university events and facilitate educational programs on issues related to partner violence and the barriers facing LGBTQ survivors
